Newcastle United vs Everton Highlights Video

Newcastle United 0 - 0 Everton

Everton travelled to St James Park hoping to continue their recent form. Newcastle United, with manager Joe Kinnear still on sick leave, were still looking behind them with the threat of relegation still not completely banished from Tyneside.

Dan Gosling provided the first real action with an effort that flew past the post. Unfortunately for Everton’s patched up squad, the next action saw Mikel Arteta carried from the field with a knee injury. Substitute Segundo Castillo, Joseph Yobo, Phil Jagielka and Gosling all had subsequent good chances to put the Toffees ahead before Peter Lovenkrands was handed the best chance of the game for the home side but, with only Tim Howards to beat, put his shot past the keepers right-hand upright.

The game effectively ended just before half time. Victor Anichebe was moving into the Newcastle half when Kevin Nolan challenged him, high and two-footed. Anichebe was lucky to not receive a serious injury and referee Lee Mason rightly gave Nolan a straight red card.

The second half proved similar to so many games of 10 v 11 with a resolute Newcastle defence refusing to yield to an Everton attack that promised much bit ultimately delivered very little. Neither side would be totally happy with the point but fitness appears to be higher on the list of concerns in both camps at present.
