Five time European winners Liverpool get their Champions League campaign underway on Wednesday ( September 16) when they host Debrecen at Anfield. The Reds have been one of the most consistent sides in continental competition since Rafa Benitez took over as manager, and are widely tipped to comfortably progress to the knockout stages.
Versatile Israeli international Yossi Benayoun was the star as Liverpool thrashed Owen Coyle's Burnley 4-0 on Saturday. The playmaker scored Liverpool's first, third and fourth goals of the game as the Clarets were destroyed at Anfield.
Although we have not seen much of Debrecen in the Champions League, the Hungarians are not playing English opposition for the first time. They played against Manchester United in the third qualifying round of the tournament in 2005-06, and were beaten 3-0 in both legs by Sir Alex Ferguson's men.
