Hull vs Blackburn Highlights

Hull 1 - 2 Blackburn Rovers

Both teams went into the game needing the points to bolster their hopes of playing Premiership football next season.

The commitment to the cause was evident from the off and Stephen Warnock was booked in the first minute after clattering Bernard Mendy. This set the tone for a lively encounter which was strangely quiet on the goal action front. El Hadji Diouf and Geovanni had the best chances in the first half hour before Matt Duke in the Tigers goal fumbled a Pedersen shot and Roque Santa Cruz was able to set up Warnock to score.

It got worse for the home team soon afterwards when Warnock caused havoc before laying off for Keith Andrews to guide in a second. Santa Cruz nearly made it three before another booking, this time for Michael Turner, and a resultant injury for Paul Robinson.

Jason Brown replaced Robinson after half-time and shortly afterwards Phil brown withdrew Geovanni much to the displeasure of the striker and a section of the home crowd. Dean Marney did not help the situation when he retaliated, kicking Pedersen, and the resultant red card was deserved with the Norwegian seeing yellow. Pedersen joined him later after a late and high challenge on Zayatte. Mendy pulled one back for City but they could not capitalise on this and Blackburn held on for a vital win, dragging Hull into the relegation mire.
