Hull vs Blackburn Highlights

Hull 1 - 2 Blackburn Rovers

Both teams went into the game needing the points to bolster their hopes of playing Premiership football next season.

The commitment to the cause was evident from the off and Stephen Warnock was booked in the first minute after clattering Bernard Mendy. This set the tone for a lively encounter which was strangely quiet on the goal action front. El Hadji Diouf and Geovanni had the best chances in the first half hour before Matt Duke in the Tigers goal fumbled a Pedersen shot and Roque Santa Cruz was able to set up Warnock to score.

It got worse for the home team soon afterwards when Warnock caused havoc before laying off for Keith Andrews to guide in a second. Santa Cruz nearly made it three before another booking, this time for Michael Turner, and a resultant injury for Paul Robinson.

Jason Brown replaced Robinson after half-time and shortly afterwards Phil brown withdrew Geovanni much to the displeasure of the striker and a section of the home crowd. Dean Marney did not help the situation when he retaliated, kicking Pedersen, and the resultant red card was deserved with the Norwegian seeing yellow. Pedersen joined him later after a late and high challenge on Zayatte. Mendy pulled one back for City but they could not capitalise on this and Blackburn held on for a vital win, dragging Hull into the relegation mire.

Blackburn and Everton meet at Ewood Park on Wednesday evening. Blackburn overcame hapless Hull at the weekend to claw their way out of the drop zone once again. However, playing host to Everton who currently sit 6th in the league table is a different kettle of fish. Tim Cahill and Louis Saha both scored to claim the points for the Toffees against bottom of the league West Brom at the weekend.

Everton are strong away from home this season but in the reverse of this fixture were beaten 3-2 in their first game of the 08-09 campaign. A number of injuries to key players for Everton leave David Moyes with fewer options to field against a determined Rovers side. All factors considered this is shaping up to be an exciting encounter and a match definitely worth watching.

Hull and Blackburn face off in what could prove to be a relegation 6 pointer at the end of the season. Hull slip ever closer to the drop zone as they look for an elusive win. Blackburn under the direction of Sam Allardyce fair little better and find themselves 3 points from safety.
Live Football Online

Hull lost out to Spurs last weekend which left them without a win in 10 games. Their form in the early stages of the season has seen them safe this far but they are now perched precariously in 13th position in the league table and more importantly only 4 points off the relegation zone. The Tigers look tired after a hectic schedule which saw them play twice during the week. A 2-1 win over Sheff Utd in the FA Cup does not help them here. Manager Phil Brown's main priority will be to ensure premiership survival.

Blackburn seemed revitalised under Sam Allardyce. However, things have taken a turn for the worse and with 2 points from the last 12 and a humiliating exit from the FA Cup this game is a true battle of the hapless. On their day Blackburn can play as they proved by nearly stealing a point at Old Trafford. However, it will take all of Allardyce's experience to knit his side together into a cohesive unit and start picking up points again.

Manchester United vs Blackburn Highlights Video

Manchester United 2 - 1 Blackburn Rovers

Edwin van der Sar’s one man record-breaker show was put on hold as Alex Ferguson left the Dutchman on the bench for the visit of Blackburn Rovers.

However, his replacement Tomas Kuszczak had little to do early on as Rovers offered nothing concrete in the form of a threat. United gradually built up the pressure and following an early escape when Ryan Nelson managed to prevent Wayne Rooney opening the scoring, the deadlock ultimately was broken by Rooney capitalising on a Nelson’s failure to repeat his feat, only prodding Nani’s cross on towards the England striker.

The visitors shocked their hosts by grabbing a 32nd minute equaliser courtesy of the lethal Roque Santa Cruz who finished impressively, rounding both Rio Ferdinand and keeper Kuszczak before scoring. It was the first goal conceded by the champions in 1337 minutes of action.

Jonny Evans could have restored the Red Devil’s lead but his header was ruled out albeit controversially whilst Nelson could have made up for his earlier error had it not been foer the upright. Evans later limped off injured, a concern given United’s Champions League commitments in mid-week.

It was left to Cristiano Ronaldo to fire home another magical free-kick to give Manchester United the points. The win was not without further controversy as Morten Gamst Pedersen seemed to be pulled back late on by Da Silva inside the penalty area but Howard Webb waived away Rover’s protests.

Blyth Spartans vs Blackburn Highlights

Blyth Spartans 0 - 1 Blackburn Rovers

Chilean midfielder Carlos Villanueva scored the only goal of the game to save Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce further misery in the north-east as Blyth's latest FA Cup fairytale very nearly lived on.

Villanueva curled home a superb 59th-minute free-kick to finally break Spartans' stubborn resistance on a night when Allardyce's squad players were given a real test in Northumberland.

Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez will be looking for an improved performance from his side this Saturday when they take on struggling Blackburn Rovers in their next Premiership clash.

Liverpool dropped two vital points last weekend as they were held to a 0-0 draw at home to West Ham United. With title rivals Chelsea losing out against Arsenal on Sunday, it was a great chance for Liverpool to go three points clear at the top of the league table but the Reds failed to create any real chances as West Ham hung on to claim a point from the match.

Carlos Tevez seized his opportunity to fire Manchester United to a 5-3 victory against Blackburn and reach the Carling Cup semi-finals.

With his Old Trafford future at stake, Tevez has no regard for the fixture backlog piling up for Sir Alex Ferguson.

And he hit three goals - after also claiming United's opener, which seemed to have gone in off Aaron Mokoena - to remind Ferguson of his hunger and undoubted ability.

And a one-man mission to reach Wembley seems unlikely to be stopped now, although even with two Football League sides in the draw, the Red Devils might expect a sterner test in the last four.

With his team in such an awful state, Paul Ince might have welcomed a return to his old club, even if it was just as a release from Premier League worries.

Tottenham midfielder Luka Modric is out of the Barclays Premier League clash against Blackburn following a groin injury.

Manager Harry Redknapp has told David Bentley to step into the shoes of Modric when he faces his former club at White Hart Lane.

Bentley left Ewood Park in the summer but struggled under Juande Ramos and has only started playing himself into good form since Redknapp's arriving, and will be expected to provide the attacking edge when Paul Ince's side arrive.

Matt Derbyshire (84)
Local hero Matt Derbyshire rounded off a move oozing with South American flair to finally give Paul Ince his first Premier League home win as Blackburn boss.

Derbyshire, introduced for the final quarter hour with Ince desperate to break the deadlock, pounced after Roque Santa Cruz flicked a superb through ball from Chilean debutant Carlos Villanueva into his path.

Derbyshire's timely strike ended 84 minutes of agony for Ince, whose side had toiled to little effect and looked set to end a strangely sunny Saturday afternoon still firmly rooted in the relegation zone.

Brett Emerton will return to the Blackburn squad as they look to build on their winning start to the season at home to Hull.

The Australia international missed Rovers' opening-day win at Everton with a foot injury sustained against Benfica in pre-season but is back in contention after a successful return to full training.

Manager Paul Ince has no other injury problems after his players returned unscathed from the mid-week internationals as he looks for a first success at Ewood Park.

Blackburn 0 - 2 Man Utd
Wes Brown (30)
Wayne Rooney (64)
The nickname Ince attached to himself as a player is more suited to Ferguson given the enormous number of trophies he has acquired in a stellar managerial career.

And the view from his Blackburn technical area was an unpleasant picture for Ince as United sauntered to victory thanks to a goal in each half from Wes Brown and Wayne Rooney.

Watching England coach Fabio Capello must have been delighted at Rooney's contribution, although how he must wish he could call on Anderson and Dimitar Berbatov, the instigators of United's first back-to-back successes of the season.
