Germany 1 - 2 England
23' 0 - 1 Goal Matthew Upson
63' Patrick Helmes Goal 1 - 1
84' 1 - 2 Goal John Terry

John Terry provided England with the perfect end to 2008 by nodding home a late winner to beat Germany in Berlin.

Terry sent 7,000 visiting fans into raptures when he got his head to Stewart Downing's curling free-kick six minutes from time, making up for a joint blunder with Scott Carson that let the hosts back into a contest they had been dominated in.

Derided as a meaningless fixture, the friendly will instead go down as an important staging post in Fabio Capello's tenure, with Terry's central defensive partner Matthew Upson putting England on their way to a richly-deserved triumph with a close range finish midway through the opening period.
Arsenal's medical staff were advised of the injury soon after the incident.

Podolski opened the scoring when he picked up Miroslav Klose's pass on the edge of the penalty area in the ninth minute, hustled his way around defender Vasily Berezutsky and slammed the ball past Igor Akinfeyev in the Russian goal.

Captain Ballack was in the right place to double Germany's lead 20 minutes later by side-footing home Bastian Schweinsteiger's clever cross with Akinfeyev stranded.

Philipp Lahm scored a 90th minute winner to give Germany a thrilling 3-2 victory over Turkey on Wednesday and a place in the Euro 2008 final.

But Lahm snatched victory for Germany with a curling shot into the top corner at St. Jakob Park.

Goals from Turkey's Ugur Boral and Bastian Schweinsteiger in an absorbing first half had left the game evenly poised.
