Wigan vs West Ham Live

Wigan vs West Ham Live

An exciting encounter awaits midweek between 2 very evenly matched sides in the English Premier League. Wigan battled but ultimately succumbed to the might of Chelsea at the weekend. However, their resilience gave many food for thought. West Ham scraped past Man City to return to form and gain momentum in their chase for 6th place which is still not out of reach.

Wigan were so close to claiming a point at Stamford Bridge but a late goal by Oliver Kapo allowed the Blues to claim the spoils. Despite such determination the Latics are slowly losing their hold in the league table. Without a win in 7 games they have slid to 8th. They can however leapfrog the Hammers if they claim a home win.

West Ham 1 - 0 Manchester City

Craig Bellamy returned to one of his old stamping grounds as Manchester City aimed to continue on from their midweek UEFA Cup success. The Hammers were hoping to put last week’s FA Cup exit out of their minds.

It was Bellamy who set up City’s best chance of the first but Robinho sent the ball wide. The Brazilian had a second opportunity, this time from a Vincent Kompany shot, but Green saved well. Apart from that, it was all West Ham although their football was sometime overplayed, seeking the perfect goal. Collinson and di Michele both had good chances during the first half but Shay Given was not seriously troubled. Just before time, the game was marred by a bad-looking injury to Valon Behrami, who twisted badly after getting his studs caught and required oxygen and six minutes of treatment before being stretchered off.

Following half time, the action was all heading towards the City goal with Carlton Cole and Scott Parker both having efforts blocked but it took until 20 minutes from end before Jack Collinson coolly volleyed home after Given had kept out a Savio shot. Felipe Caicedo tried to bring City level but both of his attempts lacked direction. West Ham held on to secure 7th position whilst City still only have one away victory this season.

2 defeats have threatened the Hammers status in the top half of the Premier League. They will be eager to avoid a third when Man City visit Upton Park. A decent home record coupled with poor away form for Man City has pundits favouring Zola's side.

Man City have been plagued with inconsistent performances. If they turn up for this game they are more than capable of claiming all 3 points in this game. However, if they fail to gel as a unit away form which has seen them win only 1 game this season will continue to disappoint the new club owners.

Bolton v West Ham Highlights Video

Bolton 2 - 1 West Ham

With Bolton still uncomfortably close to the relegation dogfight, Gary Megson watched his side take on 8th placed West Ham Utd at the Reebok.

Matt Taylor settled his managers nerves as early as the tenth minute when his free-kick flew over a leaky-looking wall and past keeper Robert Green in the Hammers goal. It took only two more minutes to double that lead when Kevin Davies met a Johan Elmander cross to fire home.

Gianfranco Zola’s side fought hard to get back into the match, creating some good chances. Mark Noble should have done better when he elected to pass rather than shoot and David di Michele ran half the length of the pitch before troubling the corner flag more than the net. Carlton Cole at least found the target but his goal-bound effort was cleared by Taylor.

West Ham finally got their reward after an hour when Scott Parker halved the deficit, latching on to a Spector low cross. They continued to press and only a brilliant Gary Cahill prevented Di Michele finishing off his own work. Carlton Cole was again denied, this time by Jussi Jaaskelainen in the Bolton goal. Bolton did occasionally threaten and Davies even has claims for a penalty late on but the home side held on for a priceless three points.

To literally add injury to insult, West Ham lost defender James Collins to a pulled hamstring. The full game was available live on our partner network Live Sport. They have over 42,000 members making them the largest network of its kind on the web.

Arsenal vs West Ham Highlights Video

Arsenal 0 - 0 West Ham

Arsenal will be looking to put behind a disappointing week when they welcome West Ham in their Premier League encounter on Saturday.

The Gunners added an extra match to an already congested schedule when they were held to a 0-0 draw by Cardiff City in the FA Cup on Sunday. That result was followed by a disappointing 1-1 draw against Everton on Wednesday, a result that sees them fall eight points behind league leaders Manchester United and five points behind fourth placed Aston Villa.

Manchester City were monitoring the progress of Micah Richards after a comfortable 3-0 victory against 10-man West Ham at Eastlands.

While Elano scored a brace following the opening goal from Daniel Sturridge, the mood of elation was tempered by the injury to the young England defender.

Richards, watched by national team manager Fabio Capello, was left in some distress a minute into the second half after being poleaxed following a collision with team-mate Tal Ben Haim.
