The Gunners were booed from the pitch at the Emirates last weekend when they were held to a draw by visiting Fulham. Arsenal are in a lean spell and despite being unbeaten in 16 games have 4 successive draws in recent weeks. Arsenal impressed last week in the Champions League but they have not found it possible to transfer such performances to the English Premier League. They will not get a better chance to regain their composure than when they face bottom of the league West Brom.

West Brom suffered another defeat at the weekend and now face the tough task of hosting a jaded Arsenal side looking to bounce back after 4 draws. They are currently favourites to be relegated first this season and it is unlikely that this particular opinion will change after this game.

Arsenal 0 - 0 Fulham

Andrey Arshavin and Carlos Vela were Arsene Wenger’s only changes from the side that beat Juventus during midweek. Danny Murphy returned to the Fulham midfield in place of Olivier Dacourt.

Fulham started well at the Emirates with Simon Davies volleying over from a Danny Murphy pass. Robin van Persie looked set to open the scoring but Mark Schwarzer kept out his header following good work from Arshavin. Shortly afterwards the same combination, Arshavin sending van Persie through but again the Aussie was equal to his shot. Most fans were probably glad to hear the half time whistle.

Samir Nasri set up van Persie again early in the second half but the Dutchman’s header went inches over the bar. He then struck the post and it began to look like another one of those days for the Gunners, especially when Andy Johnson’s shot flicked up off Gallas but fortunately for Arsenal landed on the top of the net. Schwarzer denied Diaby brilliantly with his legs. Arsenal continued to press but Schwarzer held firm and the boos that rang out at the final whistle spoke volumes of the problems Arsene Wenger faces.

The Gunners crushed Wigan 4-0 last week, with Thomas Vermaelen scoring a brace. Arsene Wenger fielded a younger squad for the midweek Carling Cup home game against West Brom, which Arsenal won 2-0. Andrei Arshavin is likely to return to the Arsenal squad after missing the Man United and Wigan games through a groin injury.

Fulham have had a difficult start to their own season, but they are strong at home, and the players will be charged up owing to this being a derby. Fulham beat Arsenal in one game and held them to a draw in the other- thereby alowing the Gunners to take just a point out of a possible six last season.

Arsenal v Sunderland Highlights Video

Arsenal 0 - 0 Sunderland

Arsene Wenger’s side entertained an improving Sunderland side at the Emirates. New signing Andrey Arshavin made the starting line up whilst Ricky Sbragia once again looked to in-form Kenwyne Jones to fire on all cylinders.

It was the Russian who made the first impression producing a fine save from Marton Fulop from 20 yards. Anton Ferdinand nearly topped it a couple of minutes later producing an equally good stop from Manuel Almunia. The keepers were on top in a tetchy first half during which both Keiran Richardson and Samir Nasri were booked.

Arshavin was replaced by Carlos Vela after an hour but he couldn’t assist the Gunners to break down Sunderland’s resolute defending. The Black Cats settled back to defend what they had and a Robin van Persie free-kick aside, only Vela’s mis-hit and hurried efforts from Gallas and van Persie in injury time even partly troubled Fulop in the Sunderland goal.

The boos that greeted the final whistle and Arsenal’s third successive league draw told the story. Sunderland fans head back up to the North East happy but Arsenal remain two wins behind fourth-placed Aston Villa and Wenger‘s Boys must find the winning way again if Champions League football is to be theirs next season.

Aston Villa's fight for Champions League qualification was given a significant boost as Zat Knight rifled home an injury-time equaliser to rescue a well-deserved 2-2 draw against Arsenal.

Martin O'Neill's side had battered the Londoners throughout the first half but somehow found themselves two goals down only to mount a superb fightback.

Goals either side of half-time by Denilson and Abou Diaby for Arsenal were not a fair reflection of the game and, after Gareth Barry's penalty pulled a goal back, Knight smashed home a stoppage-time leveller to maintain Villa's three-point lead over the Gunners.

With captain Martin Laursen missing Gareth Barry was made skipper for Villa.

Aliadiere pounced with a fine glancing header in the 29th minute to cancel out Emmanuel Adebayor's 17th-minute opener and ultimately ensure Gareth Southgate's men a well-deserved share of the spoils.

Stewart Downing was denied a second-half winner by a fine save from Manuel Almunia but the Gunners also had their chances through Robin van Persie and substitute Nicklas Bendtner.

And at the final whistle there was little doubt which side was happier with the point with Wenger facing up to the prospect that his side would be even further adrift of the division's top three by the weekend's end.

Arsenal vs Fenerbahce Highlights Video

Arsenal 0 - 0 Fenerbahce
Arsenal failed to lift the gloom surrounding the Emirates Stadium as wasteful finishing ensured they were held to a frustrating stalemate by Fenerbahce.

But yet again their accuracy in front of goal lacked the precision of their approach play with Robin van Persie the most wasteful.
