Arsenal 0 - 0 Fulham

Andrey Arshavin and Carlos Vela were Arsene Wenger’s only changes from the side that beat Juventus during midweek. Danny Murphy returned to the Fulham midfield in place of Olivier Dacourt.

Fulham started well at the Emirates with Simon Davies volleying over from a Danny Murphy pass. Robin van Persie looked set to open the scoring but Mark Schwarzer kept out his header following good work from Arshavin. Shortly afterwards the same combination, Arshavin sending van Persie through but again the Aussie was equal to his shot. Most fans were probably glad to hear the half time whistle.

Samir Nasri set up van Persie again early in the second half but the Dutchman’s header went inches over the bar. He then struck the post and it began to look like another one of those days for the Gunners, especially when Andy Johnson’s shot flicked up off Gallas but fortunately for Arsenal landed on the top of the net. Schwarzer denied Diaby brilliantly with his legs. Arsenal continued to press but Schwarzer held firm and the boos that rang out at the final whistle spoke volumes of the problems Arsene Wenger faces.

Arsenal visit Roy Hodgson's Fulham this weekend hoping to carry on from where they left against Wigan Athletic.

The Gunners crushed Wigan 4-0 last week, with Thomas Vermaelen scoring a brace. Arsene Wenger fielded a younger squad for the midweek Carling Cup home game against West Brom, which Arsenal won 2-0. Andrei Arshavin is likely to return to the Arsenal squad after missing the Man United and Wigan games through a groin injury.

Fulham have had a difficult start to their own season, but they are strong at home, and the players will be charged up owing to this being a derby. Fulham beat Arsenal in one game and held them to a draw in the other- thereby alowing the Gunners to take just a point out of a possible six last season.

Fulham vs West Brom Highlights Video

Fulham 2 - 0 West Brom

Bottom-of-the-table West Bromwich Albion travelled to Craven Cottage aware that a win could lift them off the bottom of the table.

Roy Hodgson has been concerned recently about his sides lack of success in front of goal. They set about trying to ease his concerns as early as the fourth minute when Danny Murphy’s free-kick beat the wall but not keeper Scott Carson’s finger tips nor the post onto which he tipped the shot. Carson was much the busier keeper and saves from Simon Davies and Dickson Etuhu plus a scrambled clearance from a Leon Barnett back-pass were all that kept West Brom level. Baggies boss Tony Mowbray must have thought his sides luck was changing as, when Fulham beat Carson, they couldn’t get past the woodwork hitting it twice in quick succession.

Bobby Zamora has not scored since September and his draught looked set to continue after failing miserably from only 12 yards out. However, redemption came on the hour as he was perfectly placed to tap in following Andrew Johnson’s header. Zamora nearly added a second shortly afterwards but again was denied by Carson. However, Johnson was on hand to hit home the rebound. Fulham played out the remainder of the ninety minutes in comparative ease and even a late scare, when Bednar was upended in the area, proved unfounded when the substitute picked himself up only for Mark Schwarzer to save the resulting penalty kick.

West Brom seemed to have upped their game in recent weeks but still find themselves rooted to the bottom of the table. They had another fruitless exploit against Newcastle losing out 3-2 in their last encounter. Tony Mowbray needs to find some magic if the Baggies are to avoid the drop this season.

72' 1 - 2 Goal Frank Lampard
89' Clint Dempsey Goal 2 - 2
Clint Dempsey's last-minute header dented Chelsea's Barclays Premier League title challenge as Fulham earned a battling 2-2 draw at Craven Cottage.

Chelsea, who have now taken just 10 points from their last 21, had been on course for a west London derby win after two second-half strikes from Frank Lampard.

But Dempsey, who had given Fulham the lead after 10 minutes, popped up with seconds remaining to extend the Cottagers' unbeaten run to nine games.

Chelsea now head into the new year three points behind league pace-setters Liverpool, who had signed off 2008 earlier in the day with a 5-1 win at Newcastle.

Aston Villa vs Fulham Highlights Video

Aston Villa 0 - 0 Fulham
Gareth Barry squandered the chances to lift Aston Villa into third place in the Premier League after a 0-0 draw with Fulham.

The England midfielder, who has vowed to remain with Villa until at least next summer, could have had a hat-trick but his finishing touch deserted him.

Victory would have taken Martin O'Neill's side above Manchester United but the Cottagers followed up their goalless draw at Liverpool with another determined performance.

Liverpool vs Fulham Highlights Video

Liverpool 0 - 0 Fulham
Chelsea's draw and Arsenal's heavy defeat were the only things to cheer a frustrated Liverpool crowd as they saw their side waste a chance to take over the top after being held 0-0 by visiting Fulham.

Liverpool did not have Steven Gerrard around to save them this time after a limp performance, his torn groin muscle having a damaging impact on Rafael Benitez's side.

Fulham, with one of the best defensive records in the top flight, have never won at Anfield and rarely looked like doing so this time.

But their dogged performance claimed only their second away point of the season and also secured their third goalless draw in eight visits to Anfield.

Blackburn 1 - 0 Fulham

Matt Derbyshire (84)
Local hero Matt Derbyshire rounded off a move oozing with South American flair to finally give Paul Ince his first Premier League home win as Blackburn boss.

Derbyshire, introduced for the final quarter hour with Ince desperate to break the deadlock, pounced after Roque Santa Cruz flicked a superb through ball from Chilean debutant Carlos Villanueva into his path.

Derbyshire's timely strike ended 84 minutes of agony for Ince, whose side had toiled to little effect and looked set to end a strangely sunny Saturday afternoon still firmly rooted in the relegation zone.

Fulham will once again be missing striker Andrew Johnson for the home clash against Arsenal.

Johnson is still receiving treatment for his thigh strain and is not expected to return for three weeks.

Seol Ki-Hyeon will continue his strike partnership alongside Bobby Zamora with Fulham enduring no fresh injuries following their 2-1 defeat by Hull.

Newcastle finally win under Keegan

Goals from Mark Viduka and Michael Owen ended Newcastle United's wretched run of 13 Premier League games without a win as they beat struggling Fulham 2-0 at St James' Park yesterday.

The result, Newcastle's first win in Kevin Keegan's second spell as their manager after nine games without a victory since the former England coach's return, eased the Magpies fears of being drawn into the relegation battle.

But defeat left Fulham second-bottom and facing a fight to maintain their top-flight status.
