Robin van Persie led the rout as Arsenal resumed normal service at the Emirates Stadium, with a thumping Champions League victory over Porto tonight.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger had demanded an emphatic response from his team following their shock 2-1 Barclays Premier League defeat by Hull on Saturday - and they delivered in irresistible fashion.
Van Persie struck his first goals in European competition for a year, pouncing either side of the interval and displaying strength during a well-taken second.
Emmanuel Adebayor set up the opener for his strike partner and also helped himself to two, the second from the spot after Nicklas Bendtner had been hacked down by Fredy Guarin.

Robbie Keane scored his first goal for the club after 11 blank games since his £20million move from Tottenham, and Gerrard smashed home the third to grab his century of Liverpool goals.
And Dirk Kuyt got in on the act with his 10th goal in 16 Champions League games for the club.
But frankly, Liverpool never got out of second gear against the outclassed Dutch champions.
PSV made three changes from side that beat Eredivisie bottom club Volendam at the weekend, with striker Danny Koevermans sacrificed for extra defensive strength.
CFR Cluj-Napoca vs Chelsea Highlights

CFR Cluj-Napoca 0 - 0 Chelsea
Chelsea escaped a distinctly uncomfortable night in Transylvania with a goaless draw - but harbouring fresh concerns over the fitness of Didier Drogba.
The Ivory Coast striker was carried off on a stretcher with an apparent knee injury early in the second half.
Despite Frank Lampard's best efforts, Chelsea could not break down the resilient CFR Cluj rearguard - and the battling Romanian double winners were good value for their draw.
Portsmouth vs Tottenham Highlights

Portsmouth vs Tottenham
34' Jermain Defoe (pen) Goal 1 - 0
68' Peter Crouch Goal 2 - 0
88' Lassana Diarra (red Card)
Jermain Defoe scored a first-half penalty against former club Tottenham before Peter Crouch added a second as Portsmouth won 2-0 and left Juande Ramos' hapless side rooted to the bottom of the Premier League.
After gaining just two points from the first six matches Ramos was subjected to chants of ''You don't know what you are doing'' from fans after he took 73 minutes to send on top-scorer Darren Bent for lone striker Roman Pavlyuchenko.
But for Pompey it was a welcome return to winning ways having conceded 10 goals in their previous two matches, although the victory was tarnished when Lassana Diarra was sent off after a second yellow card foul on fellow Frenchman Benoit Assou-Ekotto two minutes from time.

Inter lost Nicolas Burdisso to a red card in the 77th minute while Marco Materazzi was also sent to the stands from the Inter bench after protesting vociferously in a fiery end to the match in front of 80,000 fans at the San Siro.
It was a very tight beginning to the 269th Milan derby with the fear of falling behind prevailing over the ambition to go ahead.

Portugal international Danny, Zenit's record 30 million euro signing from Dynamo Moscow last month, was on target for the Russian champions midway through the first half but the home side wasted numerous chances after the break.

Alvaro Rubio struck the opener midway through the second half and Haris Medunjanin added a second in stoppage time to give Valladolid their second home success of the campaign.
Rubio was later sent off following a second yellow card in the closing stages, and the game saw more controversy as Almeria were erroneously denied an equaliser by the assistant referee's flag shortly after Valladolid went ahead.
Both Valladolid and Almeria are in their second season back in the Primera Liga, although their fortunes have been mixed so far this campaign.

Gael Clichy should be fit to return to the Arsenal side for the visit of Hull City on Saturday.
The French full back went to hospital last weekend during the second half of the 3-1 win at Bolton. It followed a heavy challenge by Kevin Davies just before the break.
Fortunately tests revealed only bruising to his shin. He has missed training all week but returned on Thursday. Straight afterwards, Arsène Wenger spoke to Arsenal TV Online.
“I am really pleased that Gael is available,” said the manager. “He had a training session today for the first time and he should develop well in the next 48 hours.”
Another French defender, Mikael Silvestre, will also be available for the first time following his move from Manchester United.(Arsenal.com)

It was almost as if Cristiano Ronaldo had never been away as he marked his return to Manchester United's starting line-up with a goal as they beat Middlesbrough 3-1 in the Carling Cup third round.
Exactly 125 days after the final one of his 42 last season, Ronaldo converted his first of this one.
A Carling Cup tie with Middlesbrough may be somewhat less enthralling than a Champions League final at the Luzhniki Stadium but the headers were eerily similar, marking the end of a turbulent summer for Ronaldo and providing confirmation he intends to be a major player for United again this season - despite his stated desire to join Real Madrid.

But 10 minutes from time, after Nicolas Anelka, Didier Drogba, Joe Cole and Michael Ballack had tried and failed to break down United's stubborn defence, Kalou exposed United's poor offside trap by nodding home John Mikel Obi's free-kick 10 minutes from time.

Goals from Sergio Ramos and Ruud van Nistelrooy had put Madrid firmly in control before BATE's Anri Khagush was dismissed to make their uphill task all-but impossible.
Heavily favoured for a comfortable home win, Madrid wasted little time creating chances, but Van Nistelrooy could not find the target from close range in the third minute.

"But we will not be putting a man-marker on him. Adebayor plays all over the pitch, and in every zone there will be one of our players to meet him.''
